1yr Well Check

Good News is....Savannah is still a healthy baby! Bad news, she is still not gaining enough weight. Which is surprising because she is an eating machine. Apparently she is just too active! Today she weighed in at 17lbs 8 oz and that puts her into the 1st percentile. The doctor said we could feed Sav ice cream and be generous with butter in her food in an effort to "fatten" her up. Either way she is a healthy, happy and way too active (at least for her parents!) little girl.

1 year old!!!

It's hard to believe that Savannah is one year old already! The year has absolutely flown by. The first seven months were a struggle at times and extremely stressful but the last 5 months have been a blast! Since her palate repair surgery Savannah has absolutely flourished.

She has mastered crawling, stair climbing, and even couch climbing. She eats like she has waited all her life. We have yet to find anything won't eat (including a taste of fried pickles at the fair). She eats like a champ and has started to get a little chub on her legs! Withing the last couple of weeks Savannah has even started walking. It just a few steps here and there but she is off to a great start. She also babbles a lot, although we have only heard her say "mama" consistently. She is also very good at waving hello and clapping her hands which is always accompanied by a big toothy grin. She now has seven teeth and has decided that a great way to use them to sneak up on Mom and Dad and take a big bite of their unsuspecting toes! She loves to hear us shriek in surprise.

Mmmm! Spagetti!

At one year Savannah remains reflux free. She has been completely off Prilosec for a couple of months now and has no relapses. It is so nice not to have to time feedings around the medication. It has really sped up the morning routine. Next month we will meet with her plastic surgeon, her pediatrician, the ENT, the opthalmologist, and the geneticist. They are all follow up appointments and we don't expect anything new to be brought up.

We celebrated her birthday yesterday by going to Julian (a small rural town about an hour away that is known for their apples). We visited the local apple days festival and picked some apples in a nearby orchard. Later in the evening we had dinner with close family. It was a fun day and just the beginning of her birthday weekend. Still ahead- a beach trip, Sea World, and a photo shoot at a nearby park.

L.A. county fair

Savannah went on her first mini road trip last week.  She did very well and slept for most of the two hour drive.  We spent the night at the hotel located on the fairgrounds and headed into the Los Angeles county fair the next day.  We all had a great time and I hope we can go back again next year!

Two of the three large ferris wheels.
 The park area

Savannah playing in front of the NHRA museum.
The garden display area. The theme this year was National Parks,
The zoo area, complete with live monkeys, kangaroos, and exotic birds.
Dinosaur display with animated life-size dinosaurs.

The shark tank. The sharks are laying on the bottom.

In one month...

In one month from today Savannah will be a year old! The time has absolutely flown by. She is doing great and has recovered from surgery well and has had no further complications. She is eating anything and everything and has yet to find anything that she doesn't like. The good news is... we finally weaned her off of Prilosec! She has been off of it for a full week now and none of her reflux symptoms have reappeared. I hope it continues this way, it has been so nice not to give any meds!

Next month the doctors appointments will start up again. Thankfully they should only be rechecks and hopefully nothing new will pop up. She will have to see her regular pediatrician, ENT, cleft team, geneticist, and opthalmologist.

She is now very mobile and is even starting to take her first steps. She can also easily get onto the couch and the coffee table. This week she has figured out how to back off of the couch herself without tumbling off.

I promise, more pictures coming soon!!!

Baby Steps

Savannah is really starting to move around now. She has mastered a pretty fast crawl, has now mastered climbing the stairs (still working on going back down) and she is now starting to walk with the help of a baby stroller that a friend gave us as a gift. She is still wobbly but I am sure she will master that as quickly as everything else she has learned to do!

Well Check

Today was Savannah's nine month well check. The best part... no shots!!! The good news is we finally made it to our 10th percentile weight goal, weighing in at 16.5 pounds. I forgot how tall she measured but it put her in the 50th percentile. She is doing very well and we even gave her first solid food meal tonight. She was offered rice, banana and some steamed zucchini. She loved it and I loved the fact it made half the mess that the purees make.

Look! I can stick my tongue out now!

Spending time playing with her doggy and his toys.
