First Road Trip!

We just got back from Sav's first road trip. We went to Yosemite for four days and had a blast! She traveled really well in the car and also did well adjusting to staying in the hotel room. It went so well that we are already talking about where to go next!

Thursday was also the year anniversary of Savannah's palate repair surgery. What a difference a year makes! She has grown up so much since then and I am happy it is past us. We went on our biggest hike and had pizza at Camp Curry. Cheers to no more planned surgeries!

Tunnel view overlooking of the valley.

Glacier point view with Half Dome in the background.

Visiting Yosemite Falls.

  Chilnaulna Falls with daddy.

Savannah did not find all of the hikes as exciting as we did!

This squirrel kept trying to jump into Sav's stroller much to my dismay and her sheer delight.

 Mule deer at Mariposa Grove.

Heading down Four Mile trail on daddy's back. She did well on this long hike (over 4.5 miles and 3200 ft elevation loss) and surprisingly only slept for about the last 30 minutes of the hike.

Four Mile trail. I recommend this hike to anyone to able to do it. It was an great hike with some amazing views. But be prepared to be sore the next day, because my calves are still screaming! We did cheat a little though and only hiked the trail downhill. We purchased bus tickets to drop us off at the top.

One of the amazing views from Four Mile trail.

Savannah looking at her new book. One of her favorite animals is bears and she was so excited to see all of the bear souvenirs.

 Napping in her portable crib/tent.

Cleft Clinic

On May 18th we went to our first "cleft clinic". It took about two hours and we saw six doctors and a social worker. It is like having 7 appointments all back to back. We would see one specialty and then go back out to the waiting room to wait for the next. Savannah started out with the dentist where they confirmed that she does have an extra front tooth. It shouldn't cause any problems and does not need to be pulled. Then we saw the ENT (ear, nose and throat dr). Her tubes are almost out but everything otherwise looked good. We also saw a hearing specialist who tested Sav's hearing and thankfully the test came back within normal range.

The following geneticist, plastic surgeon, and social worker meetings all went well. They last person we met with was the speech therapist, who confirmed what we already knew. Savannah is very slightly delayed with her speech. They recommend starting early speech therapy that we still need to look into.

They also told us she weighs in at the 15th to 20th percentile. I don't know what chart they are using but it is not the same one as the pediatrician's office! After the clinic all the doctors will meet and discuss the future plans for each patient. In a few weeks we will get a letter detailing their recommendations. They also told us we don't have to attend another clinic for at least another year!

Finally!

Savannah had her 18 month well check this last week. Everything is going well and she weighed in at 20lb 11oz. That puts he in the fourth percentile! It is the first time in about a year that she has actually measured on the chart. Before this she was always in the first percentile, but that also included babies that have fallen completely off the chart. She has been eating well lately and we hope it will continue. Just maybe we can be in the ten percentile again in the near future! As for other stats she is 31.5 inches tall (35th percentile) and the 80th percentile for head measurement.
