Earthquake!

Okay, not really. It's just Savannah rocking her pack and play! She is becoming more mobile by the day and definitely has the rocking thing down pat. She is able to lift her legs and lift her arms but not with enough coordination to crawl yet.

Savannah is also able to pull herself up on her knees on the side of her pack and play. It will not be long until we have to lower the pack and play and her crib mattress!

Met with the surgeon

Yesterday we met with Savannah's cleft nurse and her surgeon. She weighed in at 13lbs even and measured 26 inches. That puts her in the 8th percentile for weight and 70th percentile for height. She is on her way to becoming the next Heidi Klum! They are still not thrilled with her weight gain but we are already doing everything we can to up her calorie count.

The surgeon wants to do Savannah's surgery sometime in May.  That puts us past cold and flu season and will give Savannah some time to gain some more weight. Our next step is to meet with an ENT so they can take a look and see if they will need to place ear tubes during surgery. Most cleft babies get tubes during their surgery due to the fact that cleft babies are more prone to ear infections. It's kind of scary to think that the surgery may only be two months away. On the other hand I will be happy when it is all over!

Since we were up early (at least by our standards!) we decided to go to Balboa Park and the Zoo afterward. This time Savannah stayed awake long enough to see the flamingos and to pet a few goats and sheep in the children's zoo.  Savannah is infatuated with anything that is furry and walks. So to be able to pet something that doesn't lick her death like her doggy or run away like our cats was a treat! It was nice to get out of the house and relax. It was also nice to have a doctors appointment that didn't have any bad news!

Tomorrow

Savannah is nearly 6 months old! Tomorrow we meet with her surgeon. We were told to expect the cleft repair surgery to be done around 7-9 months old.  Hopefully we will get some answers on what to expect in the next couple months and hoping we can get an approximate date for her surgery.

Savannah has also been taking her bottle very well here lately and I am looking forward to a weigh in. (That is the 1st time I have ever said that!) I hope the surgery is coming up fairly soon, since I spoke to Savannah's assigned nurse this week and she said it is their policy/belief that cleft babies wait until after their surgery to start solid foods. If she has to wait until she is 9 months old for the surgery it is going to be a long road for mom and dad! She already wants to stick everything in her mouth and eat it!

Almost Crawling...

It won't be too long before Savannah starts to crawl! Right now she can pull herself up onto her knees and then she starts to rock back and forth to scoot along the floor. Soon she will have the coordination to really crawl!

Clean baby!

Here are a couple of the pics I promised!

Daddy gave Savannah a bath on his own last week so he could get some practice without me helping. So I took the opportunity to snap a few pics. A friend of mine told me that Savannah looks like a little cupie doll in the first photo and I would have to agree!

Slacking

I feel like such a slacker! It has been almost a month since my last post. Nothing much has really changed although I did finally figure out how to change the background. I may be a little slow but I eventually get there!

Savannah just turned 5 months old this week and is starting to really thrive. She has moved up to the 8th percentile for weight gain and we are hoping to keep up the momentum! She is hitting her milestones right on time and is even started to show an interest in crawling. (yikes!!)

She is currently getting over her first cold with a horrible sounding cough. We visited the doctors office who told us that it was nothing more than a common cold and she will be fine. She has no more scheduled appointments until her 6 month well check. It has been so nice not having to shuttle her back and forth between appointments every weekend although I know it won't last for long!

I promise not to slack for too much longer and will hopefully get around to posting some photos this week!
