Sharing

I was finally able to get video of Savannah and Scout playing their sharing game. This goes on daily at our house. It seems that there is hundreds of dogs toys and another hundred baby toys on the living room floor at any one moment. Yet somehow Savannah and Scout always want the same toy (or water bottle!) that the other one has. I am always surprised with how gentle and patient Scout is with Savannah. I couldn't have asked for a better dog with her. Even though at other times he is a ninety pound bull-in-a-china-shop!

New Blog...

I have started a new blog called "Never Enough Time". The link is in the right hand margin. I hope you will take a moment and visit. It is about my new food adventures (I am a HORRIBLE cook!), photography, crafting and collecting. +++update+++ That blog is no longer around. Just too much work!

On a different note-
Today I decorated Savannah's "no-no's" with owls. I have now learned to assemble the decoration and then stick it to the wraps. One owl came out a little funky but the other (after lesson learned) was much better. Hmm, I wonder what else I can put on her wraps in the next two weeks...

The Fair

We made our last trip to the fair yesterday (until the day after it closes when we have to pick up all of our exhibits). We decided to be a little adventurous in the the food department and try a few things that we have never had before. Such as a chocolate covered corndog (samples were only $2!), a giant bacon covered maple doughnut, and a blooming onion. Oddly the chocolate covered corndog was my personal favorite...but I use the term favorite very loosely in this case!!!

Savannah is still doing remarkably well. I don't believe that she has any residual surgery pain at this point. I do think she is teething again though and that is making her super crabby since she can't chew on anything! She has one bottom tooth and one top tooth so far. I never realized how had it is to photograph baby teeth! They are small, hard to focus on and she never stays still long enough.

 Rockin' the ladybugs!

Another 2 weeks and we will have the green light to leave the restraints off and finally start solids! I can't wait to start her on solids (although she had plenty of "samples" before surgery) but on the other hand we haven't had to deal with the mess of baby food yet.

Another 3 weeks?!?

We visited Savannah's Surgeon and ENT today. Everything is healing very well. Her surgeon wants to be extra careful though due to Savannah's complications after surgery and recommends keeping her "no-no's" on for a total of 6 weeks. (Another 3 weeks?! It seems like forever!!) She also recommends not starting any solids until then either. She just wants to be sure that everything heals completely and there is no remote chance of causing an injury that will result in another risky surgery.

Savannah was having a happy day despite getting up early for her appointments, until we visited the ENT... The Doctor came in looked at Savannah and bellowed "HELLLLOOOO, SAVANNAH!" she took one look at him and started crying hysterically and didn't stop crying until we left the office. During the appointment she was fitted with new earplugs for bath time and swimming. He also told us there was no infection and everything looked great.

The good news is... no more cleft related appointments for at least 4 months! Only her general check ups with her regular pediatrician. What are we going to do with all that time on our weekends?

That's right! She is the star!

Some of you might be wondering why Savannah restraints are almost always covered up in the most recent photos. After a short while the edges of the velcro on Savannah's "no-no's" started to turn up. The edges were pretty sharp and were scratching her face and legs. It was also scratching my arms too, it was so bad that we were both bleeding. So my solution? Vet Wrap. It sticks to itself and you can make fun decorations to add on to it! A tip for those who may want to try this- We found small rolls for $5 at most stores in the first aid section but if you go to a local horse tack store they sell large rolls for only $2.50! You get twice as much for half the price (and large color selection!).

Sav's 2nd County Fair!

We went to the fair again today. This time we went with Savannah's grandparents and we had a great time. Savannah must be part energizer bunny! She only napped for about an hour the entire day. Today I brought my nice DSLR camera and was able to take some better pictures than our first visit. I took our point and shoot camera last time, which is having major focusing issues and will probably being going back to the company to be repaired. My goal today (photographically) was to get pics of the things I think of when I think of the fair. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do! We will probably go the fair again next week and that will be it before it closes.

Tomorrow is going to be another busy day. We have a post-op appointment with Savannah's surgeon tomorrow. Everything looks good as far as we can tell and we are hoping her "no-no's" can come off! Later in the afternoon we have a post-op appointment in her ENT to check the ear tubes. I think she may have a small ear infection and it will be good timing to have the doctor check her ears.

Really?!? Bacon Sundaes and Chocolate Covered Corndogs? Ick!

Sav's 1st County Fair!

Today was opening day for the San Diego County Fair. I have never been on opening day before but I think we will now make it a family tradition. There were no crowds; it was wonderful. Savannah seemed to have a great time and particularly enjoyed playing in the straw in the farm section and watching all of the barnyard animals. I think she could have sat there all day. We also stayed until it was dark and Savannah loved watching the lights on the midway. We have unlimited admission passes and are looking forward to going again next week. Everyone had a lot of fun today!

Our exhibits also did well. The jeep collection won third place in the fair theme division. (The theme this year is "Race to the fair".) The Garfield Collection won 1st place in the famous faces division. I didn't place in photography again this year but I did get two honorable mentions which I am very proud of! Overall it was a great day and I can't wait to enter next years fair!
Jeep Collection- 3rd place Home and Hobby (collections)

Garfield Collection- 1st place Home and Hobby (collections)

"Rising Sun"- Honorable Mention, abstract photography

"Angus in pink"- Honorable Mention, pet photography
......
This year's photography division stats- over 4100 photos submitted and approximately 1400 accepted. Professionals and amateurs compete together and I had 6 out of 9 photos accepted!

Passing time

Savannah is still doing well. We have been trying to keep her busy (distracted!) so she isn't thinking about her arm restraints or any residual surgery pain. She seems to be comfortable and we have only been giving her Tylenol 1-2 times a day. This week we visited Del Mar Fairgrounds to set up a couple of exhibits and also visited the Zoo and Sea World. I am also thinking of taking her to the opening day of the San Diego County Fair on Friday. (Mainly because I can't wait to see if I got any awards!) Then we will be going to her cousin's birthday party on Saturday. I wonder what we will be up to next week...

Playing with Angus the kitty at home.

Posing on the tortoise at the Zoo

Watching the goats and sheep in the petting zoo.

Petting a goat at the Zoo.

 Watching the beluga whales.

Savannah is thinking...Mmm, that's a lot of fish tacos!

Playing in the grass for the first time. (Perfect since she can't put it in her mouth!)

Sitting pretty in the Sea World garden!

Fingers crossed

We had our first post-op appointment yesterday. We have two scheduled because Savannah's recovery has been "unusual". Both her doctor that saw her in the hospital (both admissions) and her surgeon were there to look at her. The repair looks good and appears to be healing correctly. She is off all of her medications except the occasional dose of Tylenol for pain. There has been no more bleeding since the last incident and Savannah is back to her usual self for the most part. She is now a little more needy and clingy but I don't blame her after what happened last time a stranger took her away!
